Daniel - a Prophetic Civil Servant

Daniel was a captive of a foreign king, living in a foreign land.  We too are 'aliens & strangers in theis world' - and especailly in our secular society today.
Daniel was under pressure to become like those around him, he was trained to be a good civil servant, thoroughly Babylonian in culture, but he had to decide what he would accept and where he would draw the line - he choose food as his battleground and overtly stood out as different for God's sake. We have to decide how we will respond to the pressures to conform to the secular world around us - to give in & conform, to stay under cover and do things differently in secret, to opt out and cut ourselves off from the world or to stand up for what we believe is right.

Daniel chose not to compromise and trusted God to be with him through the resulting trials.  God didn't save him from hardships such as the Lion's den, but He did save Daniel right in the midst of them - again and again the message comes through the book of Daniel that GOD IS IN CONTROL.  Will we trust Him and live His way even when it makes life difficult?
