Debbie Newman
Debbie is part of Abingdon Community Church and has a vision to take the Father's love to the children of the Kamuli region of Uganda.
Debbie is a trained Primary School Teacher and worked in Uganda as part of a teacher training team for a year. In May 2004 she visited Kamuli District and saw many children unable to learn because of simple infections that had been left untreated as a result of poverty. She knew that a God of love could make a difference to the children and so in September 2004 Helping Hands was “born”.
Helping Hands is a healthcare charity which aims to demonstrate the love of God to children by practically caring for them. The charity ensures that each child has access to free medicines, appropriate health education and key disease prevention measures so that they can begin to enjoy the dignity of helping themselves. Around 2500 children are currently cared for by Helping Hands.
