A few good kings

Part of growing in the Lord is to have a good overiew of the Bible to understand how we fit into God's big story.  We have been looking at the period of the story under Israel's kings but haven't so far looked at the kings themselves.  They were a mixed bag, starting with Saul who turned away from God and David who was a man after God's own heart, despite a few serious errors!

Most of the later kings do not come out very well in the Biblical account, but today Ed drew out three of the best and what they had in common which could be an example and inspiration for us.  Looking at Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah and Josiah, we saw how they were totally devoted to the Lord, how they depended on him, especially when times got tough, and how they declared his goodness and his ways to others.  What about us?  Are we wholehearted devoted?  Are we fully dependent on God in our daily lives?  Do we declare his goodness to those around us?

In the end, none of these kings got it all right, but thankfully God takes us as we are and his purposes can never be thwarted - as we come up to Christmas we look forward to the ultimate king: Jesus himself - are we ready for Him to come afresh to us?
