Our Vision

Our desire as a church is to see Bicester and the surrounding villages touched by the love of God. We seek to do this by focussing on 3 main areas that God has shown us to be particularly important.

WORSHIP

Seeking to worship God in all aspects of our lives

FAMILY

Building strong and caring relationships with each other as part of God's family

OUTREACH

Reaching out to people to share the love of God with them

Worship: Honouring and glorifying God in every activity. (Is 43v7)

We do this personally in regular time with the Lord in prayer and Bible reading, and involving Him in every area of the routines of life. This includes worship through sacrifice of time and money.

We do this corporately with music, prayer, silence, exercising the spiritual gifts and in other creative ways. Corporate gatherings should encourage us to worship God personally throughout the week.

Family: A practical picture of the church in close relationships together and a word stating our desire to provide for all ages. (Eph 2v19-22)

From our close walk in relationship with "Our Father" we are able to build close relationships with one another. This is demonstrated through practical love and a commitment together to grow in following Jesus Christ more closely. Attending mid-week or Sunday meetings is only one way of building relationally, and we seek to have genuine friendships beyond meetings. We want our family to be inclusive of all, but those who lead others and therefore shape the values should have clear pastoral covering and be open to loving correction and discipleship.

Outreach: We have a mission beyond ourselves to draw others in to God's family  (Matt 28 v 18-20).

We want each member of the family to be concerned for those who do not know the Lord. This is demonstrated through prayer for friends and family and intentionally seeking to communicate the love of Jesus Christ. We run courses such as the Alpha course that can help build bridges into God’s Kingdom and we are committed to serving in the local community, especially in the Keble Road area. We recognise we are involved in a spiritual battle and seek to take ground as well as consolidate.

Prophetic Vision

We are the result of a prophetic vision for churches linked together relationally across the county. Once here God showed us we were to be like an ‘oak tree’, organic, growing and reproducing. We believe we are a part of what God is doing alongside the other churches of Bicester. We believe God has spoken specifically to us about having a community focus, partly outworked through ‘The Kabin’. God has spoken specifically about reaching out to the people in the Keble Road area – the Kabin is a tool to facilitate this. We are now seeing a ‘road ahead’ that will lead us into growth, but only if we pause and return to our first love and avoid the ‘lukewarmess’ towards God’s kingdom associated with many in our culture.

A Pattern Of Corporate Church Life

Throughout the year we will seek to develop a strategy which allows us to work out this threefold vision (Worship, Family, Outreach) in our locality under the leading of God’s Spirit. We see the period from September to December as a key opportunity to "WIN" others, drawing them closer to the Lord through Alpha and other means. From January to April we see new Christians being "DISCIPLED", challenged to become radical followers of Jesus. From January to May we see those who are willing, being "DISCIPLED" through teaching, courses and personal pastoring. From June through to August we see ourselves as "SENT" in a more strategic way to our friends, neighbours and even the nations, with the intention to draw others in again during the Autumn.

Weekly Gatherings

We believe that the smaller group setting is where personal worship, relational family life and outward vision can be effectively encouraged and more personally considered. This is accomplished through an informal meeting, which could involve prayer, testimony, bible study, breaking bread, guided discussion, practising spiritual gifts, social activities, meals, musical worship, listening to tapes or watching videos. Much of the practical care, which the body shows one to another, will be through the family group members guided by the family group leaders. Participation of all is actively sought and encouraged not only in meetings but also in our life together beyond. Family groups often take responsibility for practical service such as in providing meals or setting up on Sundays. On Sundays we seek to express our threefold vision together with a specific focus on the teaching of the Bible.
