Dr. Jan White has lived in Africa for over 12 years and has established medical clinics in both Kenya & Uganda. Jan currently lives in Mbale, Uganda where she has set up a further two clinics and a hospice.
| BUWASUNGUYI CLINIC |

Work at Buwasunguyi is going on well. Jan sees approximately 20 patients on Tuesdays, and increasing numbers of children are being brought for free immunizations on Thursdays. The veranda has finally been finished, and we are thinking of a gazebo as a temporary solution for the people waiting in the sun and/or rain especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Construction on the planned kitchen and motor bike store should start before November |

There have been various improvements in the hospice recently. The beds now all have new bedside lockers, the old second hand mattresses have been retired and new mattresses have been sew into waterproof covers locally. |

| WORKING WITH JENGA: MOBILE HIV CLINIC |
|
 |
JENGA is a Christian NGO working in the more deprived areas of Mbale municipality. It is involved in water, sanitation and community health, and uses JOY Hospice as it’s referral clinic. We have just completed a 2 week AIDS sensitization and testing exercise with them in Mooni. Approximately 160 people were tested, of which 5% were positive for HIV/AIDS |
AND FINALLY:
Please continue to pray for Jan, especially that Jan will be able to get at least one day off a week. "One of my only days off recently was sabotaged when a “renowned international evangelist” who had been holding a crusade in Mbale had an attack of angina late at night. I had a 2 hour drive at midnight to assess him in case he had had a heart attack. Similarly, this last Saturday I finished up doing my hearse impersonation and driving a body 25 km to a village after a torrential downpour all night. At least I will get couple of days off this week as I will be travelling to Kampala to attend Makerere University graduation ceremony for my diploma in palliative care."
