Green Travel Policy

"Our intent is to reduce the environmental impact of our travel demands on God’s creation through raising travel awareness amongst employees and congregation members, and through encouraging environment-conscious travel behaviour.”

The King's Centre is working in partnership with Oxford City Council to reduce the number of car movements on Ferry Hinksey Road. As a congregation, Oxford Community Church are obliged by the planning permission for The King's Centre to ensure that no more than 60% of people travel to our Sunday meetings by car. However, our Green Travel Plan (created when we moved in to the building in 2002), goes beyond that. We set a target to reduce the percentage of our congregation travelling onto Osney Industrial Estate by car to under 45%. Our Green Travel coordinators take regular traffic counts on Sunday mornings to help ensure that this is happening.

Whilst this plan and its targets form part of our planning permission, it is also our desire to hit these targets for more positive reasons!

  • We wish to bless the local residents by keeping the traffic going past their front door on a Sunday down to a minimum.
  • We want to look after this beautiful world God has given us, by cutting our carbon emissions and protecting the environment.
  • Travelling by ‘green means’ also keeps you fit, is cheaper, and allows us to enjoy the beautiful city we live in.

If you would like more information about our Green Travel Plan, how it works and how you can make a difference, please get in touch with us.
