We believe that an outward-looking approach to life is important for us as a Church. There are always people around us in the community who need help in any number of ways. That might include support through a time of grieving, a pregnancy crisis, a marriage breakdown or illness. Or it might involve help in some practical manner.
We care a lot for people, so we believe that it’s important for us to make ourselves available for others in times of need.
We’re also currently providing prayer and sponsorship support to two major activities in which various members of Oxfordshire Community Churches are involved, as follows:
Dr Jan White—medical consultant in Africa Dr Jan White has lived in Africa for more than 21 years and has established medical clinics in both Kenya & Uganda. Jan currently lives in Mbale, Uganda where she has set up a further two clinics and a hospice.
Street Pastors Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue. It was pioneered in London in January 2003 by Rev Les Isaac, Director of the Ascension Trust, and has seen some remarkable results, including drops in crime where teams have been working.
We actively support Street Pastors in Swindon who are out on the streets to help folk over the weekend in the town centre between ten o’clock at night and four in the morning.
