Dear Parents,
As we come to the end of another half term, your children are no doubt glad of a short holiday next week. Having completed our first full year all together on one site last July, it now feels increasingly like home for all of us and very natural to be an all age school. I can’t think why more schools don’t do likewise!
Open Day
Thank you for your flexibility in making arrangements for your children to be in school last Saturday for our open Day. I trust it has worked for you having the day off in lieu on the Friday instead of the Monday. Please let us know whether you feel this is an improvement (or not). The Open Morning ran very smoothly, and we were encouraged by the interest shown by our visitors. We are always keen that as many people as possible look round the school, and most do so through a personal contact. We will be running an Open Morning next October, so can I ask that you prayerfully consider over the coming year which of your friends, neighbours or work colleagues you can point in our direction? A personal recommendation from a King’s School parent is really our best way of helping prospective parents catch the vision of Christian Education. I have attached a copy of our new leaflet, ‘Ten FAQs about The King’s School.’ Perhaps you could file this and be ready to forward it to interested friends as appropriate, or, better still, refer to it directly as conversations about the school develop.
Year 6 visit Christchurch
Three of our Y6 pupils along with Mrs Petterson and Mrs Briggs, attended a day at Christ Church Cathedral, on 14th October, to celebrate 400 years of the King James Bible. This included drama, art and music workshops.
The TKS children looked very smart, conducted themselves beautifully and were commended by the Bishop of Dorchester for their reading of Scripture in the service. There were clearly a credit to themselves, the school and of course to the Lord.
Each of the 80 schools who had participated in the design and writing of the scripture received a gift of one of the gospels. This is held in the Primary School by Mrs Rapson if you would like to see it.
Infants
Our thanks to Mrs Prosser who is doing a great job settling our Year 1s into a new routine. I suspect they will turn out to be a (positive!) force to be reckoned with as they move through the school!
Sports results
Congratulations to our girls’ hockey teams for their results so far this term. Our under 16s have won both their games, against Sibford Ferris (1-0) and Kingham Hill (2-1), the under 13s beat Kingham Hill 1-0, and a mixed under 16 team beat Leckford Place 2-1.
Honours were shared in yesterday’s boys’ handball fixture yesterday against Leckford Place, with the under 13s losing 24-12, and the under 16s winning 22-10.
Printing homeworks
Now that many pupils complete their homework on a laptop or PC, can I ask that all homeworks are printed out at home before being handed in? Where work is compulsorily completed on one of the school computers during a lesson, the school will undertake to arrange for the work to be printed (e.g. controlled assessments for Years 10 and 11).
Christmas Fayre
Our Christmas Fayre on 26th November is fast approaching; please continue to think about how you can help with this event. We will send more information after half term.
Christmas Productions
This year our Infant and Primary pupils are putting on their Christmas productions on Friday 2nd December; the Infants ‘A Little Nativity’ at 9.30am, followed at 10.30am by the Primary ‘The Good Old Days – a Victorian Music Hall…and much much more!’ Refreshments will be served between performances, so please do stay and watch both.
I trust you all enjoy a good half term break with your children.
Yours sincerely,
John Ellwood, Head Teacher
