5 Frequently Asked Questions

Q) What are the academic results like?

A)

We have been consistently encouraged over the years by GCSE results that are of a very high standard for a school that is not academically selective. Between 80 and 95% of students taking exams gain five or more GCSEs at grade C or higher (regional average of 55-65%) and 30-45% of the results are A or A*. The King’s School has also consistently gained GCSE results that place it in the top three non-selective schools (state or independent) in the county.

Q) Do you follow the National Curriculum?

A)

The King’s School follows a curriculum that is broadly in line with the national curriculum, but taught from a clearly Christian perspective. The school is inspected by OFSTED and received a very positive report in its most recent inspection. At GCSE, students follow a core of five subjects (English, Maths, Double Science and RS) and choose four options from a list of eight or nine other subjects (currently – English Literature, History, Geography, Art, Graphics, French, German, PE and IT).

The Senior School operates from a town centre building that does not have recreational land on site. However, the Primary School with its 5 acres of recreational space nearby. In addition we are able to make use of the many sports facilities within easy reach of the school, including the leisure centre and rugby club.

Q) How well qualified are the teachers?

A)

The King’s School has been blessed over the years with many dedicated, well-qualified and experienced teachers. In the Primary School, most of the core staff are fully qualified teachers. In the Senior School, seven of the nine core staff are fully qualified teachers, and the remaining two are, respectively, an Oxford graduate and an Oxford PhD. One member of staff is a qualified dyslexia assessor and provides and co-ordinates help for students with special needs. Q)

Do you have to be a member of the community church to go to the school?

A)

The school is looking to work in close partnership with parents and the important question is if the parents are fully committed to the values of the school. Anyone who is happy to work with the school in upholding its values as a Christian School is welcome to apply to send their children here. You do not have to be a member of the community church to attend the school.
