Life in the School

The King's School is at heart one school, but based on two separate sites. The Primary School caters for the children from Reception to Year 6 (i.e. rising 5 to age 11). The Senior School caters for children from Year 7 to Year 11 (i.e. age 11 to 16). A world-view that places God at the heart of everything pervades the whole curriculum.
Over the years our staff have been developing a Christian curriculum suited to our aims, which includes a means of assessment on a regular basis. Work is still being done on Christian perspectives for various other subjects both at Primary and Senior level. We recognize, however, that no one system can provide a fully rounded education and we offer variety in our methods whilst being prepared to continually re-think our approaches to all subjects.

In the Primary school, apart from core subjects (Maths, English and Science), a variety of other subjects and activities are incorporated into the timetable. These include Biblical studies, Music, Art and Crafts, History, Geography, PE, Games and Computer Skills. Project or Topic themes based on Christian perspectives and principles are developed by our staff.

There are opportunities for everyone to participate in sports which include soccer, cricket, netball, hockey, tennis and athletics. Matches are played with other schools in the area and annually the school participates in a Christian Schools' Sports day. There are also regular dramatic and musical events.

Throughout the school, great emphasis is placed on the Bible as the Word of God. Each week spiritual principles are taught through stories and theme teaching. There are several opportunities given for corporate worship. A high priority is given to memorisation and meditation of scripture on a weekly basis. As pupils get older, we encourage them to think through the implications of their faith and to see how it affects the world around them.
