sunshine on a rainy day....

The end of the summer is drawing near – the wettest summer for 100 years! Somehow we have still managed to go camping (only getting slightly wet at the end), visit the zoo, go to the outdoor swimming pool at Abingdon and eat some delicious pizza in Oxford. Carpe Diem – seize the day. Or in this case seize the moment when it’s not raining! This summer has been a time for relaxing and resting – but also reflecting. Malcom Duncan at transform said "We need to remember who we are in Christ and what he has done in us"

As I look forward to this new term, I am reminded that every day is a new day. Our past with its successes and failures doesn’t have to wreck our future – author Mark Batterson says sometimes our plans have to fail in order for God’s plans to succeed. Divine detours and divine delays are the ways God gets us where He wants us to go. We need to quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. The world needs more daring people with daring plans. Why not you? Why not me?

I love this quote from Robert F Capon:“The Good News is no longer good news, it is okay news. Christianity is no longer life changing, it is life enhancing. Jesus doesn’t change people into wild-eyed radicals anymore, He changes them into ‘nice people’. But radical Christianity wasn’t nice; it was category-smashing, life-threatening, anti-institutional; it spread like wildfire through the 1st century and was considered by those in power to be dangerous. ‘I want to be filled with an astonishment which is so captivating that I am considered wild and unpredictable and … well …dangerous’. I want to be dangerous to a dull and boring religion. I want a faith that is considered dangerous by our predictable and monotonous culture.”

Philippians 3 says: Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

This term I’m pressing on towards the goal of seeing heaven breakout on earth, of praying and seeing things change, of hearing God and acting on it and seeing just what an awesome and amazing God we worship.
