The light shines in the darkness

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

There are snowdrops starting to flower all around me at the moment (although not the ones I planted in my garden!) every time I see them they bring a smile to my face. They are such brave, determined flowers and despite being small they are such a cheerful flower! They signal that the dark months of winter are coming to end - even if that is still  a while away.

They are a herald of brighter days to come.

Worth remembering and holding on to in a world so full of darkness and  disappointments -We can see signs of hope all around us. We know that God is good all the time. Even when we don't fully understand what is going on around us - God is good.

I've been provoked once again to think about being thankful, thankful for the small things - like snowdrops, thankful for the big things - healing, provision, salvation. Thankful to a creator God who loves us and never lets us go, who loves our worship, loves it when we try things out for the kingdom and sits with us when they don't quite come off and runs with us laughing and shouting for joy when they do.

The word became flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father full of grace and truth.

We have seen his glory - maybe just caught a glimpse of the awesomeness of God - and it is like the sun bursting out from behind the clouds, like the snowdrop pushing its pure white head out of the ground, like the smile on a mothers face as she cuddles her baby, like nothing else we have ever seen or imagined. All powerful, all encompassing - the compassioante and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.....this is the light that shines into the darkness, that comes and lives with us, stands with us, fights for us and overcomes EVERYTHING.

Pretty cool really - maybe that will remind me to blog  a bit more often from now on.....
