“Your Kingdom come… in Oxford as it is in Heaven.”

Info for BSSM students considering a third year placement in Oxford.

Why Oxford?

Are you a student at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, considering placements for your third year? Or maybe you’ve recently graduated from BSSM and are considering where God might be calling you next? We would love you to consider spending a year in Oxford.

The city of Oxford is a remarkable place, and has been the launching point for many significant moves of God. We are praying for a similar revival in our day, and we believe we’re beginning to see the first signs of it in what has been labelled The Quiet Revival.

Oxford Community Church is a thriving, Spirit-filled church in this wonderful city. We have a vision to see Oxford transformed by the love of God and the power of his Holy Spirit, and to send people to the nations with the good news of Jesus. We are passionate about equipping University Students to couple their world-class studies with a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit. We want to see Students living a supernatural lifestyle that transforms their God-given spheres of influence.

One of our key ministries is School of the Spirit, a part-time six-month ministry school, equipping people to live like Jesus: secure in their identity, filled with God's power, and demonstrating the Kingdom wherever they go.

If you were to spend a year with us, you would get to serve on School of the Spirit, with students and 20s, and various other areas of church life, depending on your passions and gifting.

Meet the Mentors

Hello, we are Liam and Helen Thatcher, and we serve as mentors for those doing their BSSM placement in Oxford.

We are passionate about following Jesus, and learning to grow in the gifts that he gives us. We moved to Oxford in 2021, following a series of dreams and prophetic words, and we are loving the adventure of following God.

Together, we are part of the team at Oxford Community Church, and serve on the vision team for Salt & Light Advance. We also have the privilege of leading School of the Spirit, along with a great team of volunteers. School of the Spirit has been such a great way of learning with others, growing in faith, spiritual gifts, and relationship with God.

We’re glad you’re considering spending a year with us here in Oxford. Below you will find some practical information to help you make your decision. You can apply via MyBSSM once placements are open, but in the meantime if you have any questions or want to talk further, please drop us a line!

Practical Information

  • If you are a UK citizen or hold a UK visa for other reasons, it would be most straightforward for you to spend a year with us. Those from Commonwealth counties may also be able to find a special visa.

For those applying from outside the UK or Commonwealth, there are several possible types of visas which may be suitable (charity worker, religious worker, minister of religion, standard visitor visa), but each come with different costs and restrictions.

  • For those applying from overseas, you would not be able to take any paid employment while in England, on any of the suitable visas. This includes remote working for businesses in your home country.

  • Oxford is a relatively expensive place to live, and due to visa regulations, we are unable to provide accommodation for those coming to serve on a voluntary placement.

As a rough guide, you should allow £600 (GBP) per month for a room in a shared house with other students or young adults. We can offer advice on finding suitable accommodation, and we may be able to help you find a group of people to share with, or a family who would be happy to rent a room to you.

  • The standard school year in the UK is September to June, with British people often taking lengthy vacations in August. This is different from the August to May year in USA.

Our School of the Spirit also runs from October to March each year. So we advise you aim to arrive in late August, in order to start your placement in September.
