1000 Hours
Serving our city through the month of May
Our Vision
We believe the church should be good news for society, helping people experience God’s love in practical ways. So we’re inviting Oxford Community Church to give 1,000 hours of volunteer time to serving our neighbourhoods in the month of May.
We’re encouraging everyone, whatever age or stage of life, to serve in their street, workplace, school or community. Our hope is that this will lead to communities being blessed, new relationships being formed, and plenty of people being invited to take a next step in exploring faith.
What can I do?
We encourage individuals, families and friendship groups to pray and dream together about creative ways to serve those around them. And we invite our Community Groups to think together about how they can serve in their locality.
You can also sign up to serve with some of our existing partners, including Tyndale Community School, Safe Families, and Abingdon Community Church, as well as others recommended by Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action. Check out volunteering options below, and if you have questions or ideas, get in touch.
Why not consider:
Making a positive improvement to your neighbourhood by litter-picking, or planting flowers
Contacting neighbours to offer help with jobs
Baking gifts for neighbours or local business owners
Running a community event for elderly residents
Community Groups
Tell us what activities you’re planning, so we can support you, celebrate with you, and invite others to join in.
Partner Organisations
If you have volunteering opportunities for people to get involved with, please let us know the details so we can plan and invite people to join in.
Volunteers needed
Making it happen behind the scenes
In addition to signing up to serve the community, we could do with a few volunteers to help behind the scenes, particularly on Sundays, with tasks such as: signing people up for serving opportunities, helping people log their hours of serving, receiving and distributing t-shirts and equipment. If you can help, please sign up:
Resources
T-shirts, flyers, and more…
We’ll have a selection of t-shirts for people to wear while volunteering, as well as other resources such as leaflets, stickers, and hi-vis jackets. T-shirts can be borrowed on Sundays and returned (washed please) the following Sunday or midweek. If you’d like to purchase a t-shirt to keep, we have a limited number for sale at £8 each.

Log your hours and share your stories
Please help us by logging the hours you serve and sharing good news stories through our online form. This can include ways you are already serving, as well as new activities. For shared activities, each individual or family unit should complete the form.
Thanks for being part of blessing our city!
In a world that is so chaotic, pressured and filled with bad news, is it possible to discover peace, hope, freedom and purpose?
Join us on Sundays through the month of May when we will be looking at stories of people who encountered the risen Jesus, and learning how he is able to meet our greatest needs.
