The story of Jesus is Good News, and as his followers we are meant to be Good News People. In this series, through Autumn 2026, we'll explore how the message of Jesus offers hope today, and learn how to share that hope with others.
Series at a Glance
The Pursuing God
20/09
We can often imagine that God is distant and disinterested, just waiting for us to find our way to him. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the first week of our new series, Liam looks at the good news that God is pursuing us with an unrelenting love!
Good News People
27/09
God is on a mission to reach this world with his love, and the good news is that we are his chosen means of doing so! In the second week of our Good News series, we look at our call to be those who bring God’s blessing to the world around us
The Harvest is Plentiful
04/10
Too often we assume that people are disinterested in the good news of Jesus, but that simply isn’t true. As Jesus said, the harvest is plentiful. In this talk we consider the current state of our nation, and some of the signs that people are hungry and thirsty for God.
The Gospel of the Kingdom
11/10
The good news of Jesus isn’t individualistic and escapist, about us going off to heaven when we die. It’s so much more compelling than that! In this talk Steve looks at Jesus’ plan to rescue and restore all things, and his invitation to play our part in bringing his Kingdom.
Weekend at Home
As part of our Weekend at Home, we will host practical workshops, equipping us to have good conversations about faith, answer difficult questions, and share our story with confidence.
17/10
Signs of the Kingdom
18/10
Jesus didn’t only teach about the Kingdom, he also demonstrated it by healing the sick and raising the dead. In this talk, Liam considers how healing is a sign of God’s in-breaking kingdom, and a foretaste of his plan to make all things new.
Baptism Sunday
25/10
Our baptism services are a highlight of the term, where we get to hear people’s stories and celebrate new life. If you’ve not yet been baptised as a profession of your faith in Jesus, find out more and get in touch.
Guest Speaker: Steve Thomas
01/11
Steve was the founding pastor of Oxford Community Church and led Salt and Light International for many years. He and his wife Lorraine are now based in Nottingham and travel widely, supporting church leaders across the world, and in particular in French-speaking Europe.
Making Room
08/11
If we are to live as good news people, helping others find the life that’s available through Jesus, it requires us to be intentional. In this talk, Steve Jones considers how we can begin to make room in our lives for those who don’t yet know Jesus.
The Power of Invitation
15/11
Who doesn’t enjoy a good recommendation? We love to share things that inspire or interest us, yet when it comes to sharing our faith, we can feel hesitant or ill-equipped. In this talk, Paul Gander speak about the power of invitation.
Advance Celebration
22/11
Twice a year we gather with friends from across the Salt and Light Advance family of churches for worship, teaching, and celebration together.
Practical Steps
As we go through this Good News series, here are some practical steps to help you grow in sharing your faith:
1) Pray for Five Friends
Why not commit to praying daily for five friends who don’t yet know Jesus. Here are some suggestions for how to do that.
2) Make an Invitation
Why not invite a friend to an event this term. It could be our Alpha Course starting on 23 September, our Baptism Service, or our Christmas Carol Service on 13 December.
3) Take the Next Step
If you are exploring faith yourself and would like to talk to someone, we would love to help you. Check out our Exploring Faith page and get in touch.
